23. Leadership/New Organization

Hall-Tonna Definition:
This value label was changed by Brian Hall from Corporation/New Order to Corporation/Stewardship and defined as: "Leading and developing a new organization or transforming an existing one. " Also, "The skills, capacity and will to create new organizational styles or to improve present institutional forms in order to creatively enhance society."

Existing Online: The innovative design of new organizational or institutional forms which, if implemented, would creatively enhance society.

Rationale: We need to discuss what we mean by this value to effectively distinguish it from Construction/New Order which is currently defined as: To initiate and develop a new form of institution for the purpose of creatively enhancing society.
New Label: Leadership/New Organization Old Label: Corporation/New Order
Final: Leading/developing a new organization or transforming an existing one.

2020

Initiating and leading the development of a new organization or the disruptive transformation of an existing one.

  1. suggestion:
designing new ways of operating organisations and institutions which, if implemented, would creatively enhance society.

    contruction/new order could become:
(Creating) (Building) organisations and institutions which contribute to enhancing society.

    rationale:
my explanation of these two values has always been around one being designing new order (corporation/new order)and one being around building/creating new order (construction/new order) and for me, using these definitions, new order is more apt than stewardship

  2. I like the idea of distinguishing between designing and constructing and that the purpose is to create New Order. For me designing is the ideas & leadership part, and construction is the implementation & practice.

Peter block defines Stewardship as the orderly distribution of power that helps people live their values while fulfilling their purpose. Even though he advocates the focus is on citizenship rather than leadership; it takes leadership to design such a system.

Therefore I am wondering if the labels & descriptors might be shifted as such:

Stewardship/New Order:To design & initiate a new form of organization or institution that creatively enhances its own citizenship & society.

Construction/New Order: To develop and implement new organizational models that enhance its own effectiveness and benefits society.

  3. A question and a couple of comments, with notice that I am very fond of this value.

The Question. Do the statements relating to this value explore more than just my preference to lead and develop organisations?

Comments. I have a similar view to Nifeli regarding this new descriptor. For me the new descriptor does not have the richness of the original, nor would it describe what this value means for me or how it plays out in my life. I have little/no preference to lead or develop organisations yet in my advisory/consulting role, frequently contribute to the innovative design of new organizational or institutional forms which, if implemented, would creatively enhance society. The ‘if implemented’ part differentiates, for me, this value from construction/new order which I take as being more of a ‘hands on’ ‘I’m building this’ perspective.

Leading/stewardship could suite the current construction /new order value, changing this to; leadership/new order or stewardship/new order.

From recent conversations, stewardship (as commented by RonaLynn) may be a more encompassing term than leadership

  4. At the key affiliates meeting this week it was decided to change the word "new-order" to "new organization".

This is consistent with our need to remove the word new-order from the MVF as it is tied to conspiracy theories in most common usage these days.
