Proposed: To hold yourself and others accountable to a code of ethics derived from your principles. To address the appropriateness of your behaviour in relation to living your values.
Rationale: Codes of ethics are derived from our principles not from our values.
Final: To hold yourself and others accountable to a code of ethics derived from your principles. To address the appropriateness of your behaviour in relation to living your values.
seems like there are two parts to the original and proposed definition
ReplyDelete1. (proposed definition) To hold yourself and others accountable to a code of ethics derived from your principles.
my suggestion:
To have yourself and others answerable to codes of behaviour which you believe to be appropriate
rationale: This takes the words we are defining (accountability and ethics) our of the definition
2. (proposed definition) To address the appropriateness of your behaviour in relation to living your values.
my suggestion:
To (take action on) (do something about) (evaluate) (determine) the appropriateness of your behaviour based on your values
rationale:
explains what is meant by the term 'to address'
I'm not sure that it matters that the words of the value label are contained within the descriptor. The purpose of the descriptor is to describe what the value is about. Unlike a dictionary definition which describes the meaning of a word, the role of a descriptor is to paint a picture, through words, so a person can isualize/imagine/conceptualize what it would be like to live that value.
ReplyDeleteThe question to ask ourselves, when writing the descriptors, is, "Does this descriptor facilitate the process of a person answering the visual, auditory, & kinaesthetic modality questions in the AVI report in relation to each of their values?"
