30. Transcendence

Existing Online: Spiritual discipline and detachment so as to experience a global and visionary perspective through a feeling of being in touch with some ultimate source of wisdom.

Proposed: Transcendence Exercising meditative and spiritual discipline in support of a transcendent
(transformative?) global vision.

Rationale: Simpler. No need to refer to an "ultimate source of wisdom. " This is a means value in the Wisdom Cluster and supports the Goal Values of Intimacy/Solitude and Truth/Wisdom/Integrated Insight. This value appears to have a similar ordering function in the Wisdom Cluster as Detachment/Solitude in the New Order Cluster.

Label Change: Detachment/Transcendence to Transcendence

Final: Rising above perceived reality in order to gain wisdom in support of a transformative, planetary vision.

2020

Spirturatially transcending consensually defined reality towards an emerging, transformative understanding.

When you achieve transcendence, you have gone beyond ordinary limitations. The word is often used to describe a spiritual or religious state, or a condition of moving beyond physical needs and realities.

  2. I have some confusion with this one.. I am not sure if it is possible to separate the word transcendence from the idea of a greater power. Global vision implies human understanding or creation and transcendence means beyond human experience. Perhaps leave that out?

Also are you assuming spiritual practice is practicing detachment and that people will understand that or that there are many types of spiritual practice?

Suggestion: Spiritual practices in support of transcendence.

ps.. I appreciate how you have so carefully noted the means values and which goal values they support in which cluster. I do not have a complete list of such information and am wondering if I can have one.

  3. For detachment transcendence / transcendence

    Suggestion

Rising above perceived reality in order to envisage a transformative, planetary vision.

for me this keeps the essence of transcendence as being moving beyond what is believed to exist in current ‘reality’ to ‘see’ something big enough for the whole planet
