Existing Online: Regular discipline of non-attachment to "earthly things" that leads to quality relationships.
Proposed: The meditative discipline of non-attachment that supports quality relationships with others and an appreciation of the natural order.
Rationale: The phrase, "earthly things" is an archaic religious phrase and I believe we should abandon it. This is a means value in the New Order cluster. It seems to support the goal values of Presence, Being-Self and Knowledge/Discovery/Insight. I believe there is an aspect of this value that relates to both interpersonal relationships and and a larger sense of one's relationship to the universal or natural order.
New Label: Detachment/Solitude to Detachment
Final: The practice of non attachment leading to greater awareness of the natural order and an appreciation of quality relationships.
Agree with removing "earthly things" - what I don't get is the move from "regular" to "meditative" discipline - this is also a value I don't think I have ever had occasion to explore with a client so I will freely admit to being in the dark on this one.

agree with Jackie on the 'switch' from regular to meditative and not sure about the addition of natural order
I agree there seems to be an assumption about "the Natural order"
ReplyDeleteI also question whether detachment will be understood as leading to quality relationships.(:)
I think Dougal's suggestions resolve these issues for me. I prefer the first.
I agree with Rona - prefer Dougals first suggestion
