  2. All the following is based on not knowing the statement that related to this value.

i take loyalty to be about devotion or faithfulness to someone/thing which, for me, is much more than just observance of or delivering on promises and duties. it is often this devotion/faithfulness that keeps me coming back when promises/duties have not been met.

if we are keeping a variation of the existing and take duties to mean tasks and actions rather than duty as in obligation, then i would offer the following suggestion

to deliver on promises made and actions agreed to, with those close to you and those in authority

if we want to consider another view of loyalty not captured in the original i'd go for

to have a sense of duty and faithfulness to others

    or

to have your actions and decisions based on faithfulness and a sense of obligation

  3. I agree Dougal. You have expressed what I was trying to say in my note; that loyalty can exist without promises.

It is also possible to fulfill obligations without necessarily being loyal to the people to whom you have made the promises.

If I feel obligated to fulfill a promise it might have more to do with being loyal to my own integrity.

I much prefer your last suggestion.
