16. Competition

Existing Online: To be energized by a sense of rivalry; to be first or most respected in a given arena; e.g. sports, education or work.

Proposed: To have a sense of rivalry—with others and/or with oneself in order to be first, most respected or the best possible in a given arena.

Rationale: Adding competition with oneself may strengthen the meaning here.

Final: To have a sense of rivalry—with others and/or with oneself in order to be first, most respected or the best possible in a given arena.

    If we are going to stay away from examples...how about....

    To have a sense of rivalry and of striving to exceed previous performance as well as surpass another.

    To be energised by a sense of rivalry—with self/others

    Rationale:
    the essence of the original descriptor is about being energised by a sense of rivalry rather than just having a sense of rivalry which may energise me or not. the proposed descriptor loses the energised aspect. how a person uses this energy and or the form of the rivalry is left open for them to determine

  3. "to be energised by...." is implied in the selection of all of the values, since one of our definitions of values is that they are "energisers"...
    Therefore, it may be unnecessary to include this in the actual definition, since it is implicit in the choice (of the value)
