    'to have confidence in' is my answer when asked "what is meant by 'to put yourself forward boldly' " and people seem to connect with this easier than the current descriptor. and i agree with ronalynn on keeping thought and action.

  5. My suggestion: "To be forthright in communicating one's thoughts or actions."

    I agree that one normally has to be confident in order to be assertive, however, confidence is a separate value. This value is about "saying exactly what's on your mind", "pulling no punches"
